"I might be nearly broke and struggling to get freelance work right now, but I’ve always got money for people who keep me juiced on blading."

Dude, that quote right there hit the nail on the head.

it sucks to see your own homies who "love" rollerblading not even spend 20 bucks for a set of wheels just to keep skating. how can we expect for them to pay a buck for something to watch...

VOD for all types of media is empowering artists and musicians of all types to control every aspect of the content they put out and allows them to be their own business owners.

People who think they are suddenly having to pay for content that was free before are insane. We're simply transitioning to a new medium, its not rollerblading, its the entire world that is changing.

excellent article.
one comment about videos, or "edits". I really don't get what's with valuing videos on their editing-cinematography instead of on the skating. people seem to care a lot more about the editing than the skating. why? are why video artists first and then inline skaters? what the fuck is wrong with VG??

could be wrong but i think one theme in this post that wasn't obvious is, "Support rollerblading if you like it and want it to live".

Most bladers i talk to are down to pay for edits of bladers *who they respect*. I think the talent of certain bladers gets lost or is muddled by the blader's persona. Bladers create personas and brands for themselves, but not all brands appeal to all bladers.

I know Stephane Alfano is talented as fuck. But because of the image he's created for himself I'm unlikely to watch a free edit of his and even less likely to pay to watch his blading.

I guess everyone has their Stephane Alfano. For some people it's Broskow, Franky or Sean Kelso. I think it's interesting how character, branding and persona can enhance or take away from appreciate of a blader's skill.

No we should not be paying for marketing. I dont owe anyone anything for watching Broskow try and sell me skates through his superb skating. SSM VOD edits lack quality, concept and originality why should we be paying for half assed crap. I know its little change but I would rather spend that on some fruit or something I will benefit from. If you watched a groundbreaking advert trying to sell you a product like a car or mp3 player and you didnt buy it would you offer to pay them something because you were impressed by the adverts quality? I am sure you would not. Its no different but your making it different by suggesting its our responsibility to pay for these companies edits because its rollerblading. If these companies paid attention and started thinking about everything to do with their company instead of profit then maybe the quality would improve. With people who are outdated, unfashionable and set in the mindset of coup de tat and VG as being quality videos then yeh the industry is fucked. You all need to wake up and pay more attention. One company in its time produced quality, concept and made people question and we all know that company. EMAGDNIM. We need companies like that today to push everything in this industry to the edge and to take care in how they are presented. That includes actually having people who make you want to buy skates not just on their skill set. its everything about a person that sells your skates not their bland skills.
